The other day it was Kimunya. He was accused, vilified and very unkind words said about the man who in his defence said that he is a loving husband, a father and people's representative. However, this did not deter his detractors from crucifying him and leaving him on a tree to hang dry. When it was over he was left humbled and with a dry mouth to boot - nothing to say. Then came one political wag by the name Otieno Kajwang, he was accused of taking his discretion too far. Allowing people from foreign lands work in the country regardless of what qulaifications they were bringing in. He dismissed the accusations with one word to show wonder "Yawa"
But what striked me as unusual is the way the media treated the two cases. The case of Kimunya Muhinga and the sale of Grand Regency was a true case of crusading journalism. Railing against the few corrupt maggots that dip their fingers into the public till. Accuse, villify, crucify, hang, whatever you want to do with the thief.
Yet like one Mutuma Mathiu asked in his opinion column "where is the evidence. What did the media do to unearth the truth" except swallowing the line, hook and sinker as fed to them by politicians with partisan interests.
When it came to Kajwang' the whole thing was reduced to a farce. Making funny comments about the accusations and at the end of the day the question and focus of whether the Minister overstepped his powers was lost. And to cap it all nobody talked about it except he had a defence from one Ababu Namwamba the man who has labbeled himself anti corruption crusader number one.But now another storm is brewing and this time it is about Uhuru Kenyatta and the nomination of councillors. I can guarantee you that if the motion is tabled on the floor of parliament, it will sail through. Reason is there seems to be an unholy alliance among MPs that only wants to bring down oher people.
The question I keep asking myself is for how long will I treated to this stupid farce?
