Hide and Seek?

As a young boy growing up in the chilly Eastern Mau escarpment of the Rift Valley province, one of the things that I enjoyed most was to play hide and seek.

You know that game where a fella closes his eyes then the rest of the team disperses for the him or her to look for them. The one who scores is the one who can’t be easily traced. And when you are in hiding, you can play all the tricks to the one seeking you.

Now that I am grown up I can’t play hide and seek anymore. But that does not mean that adults do not play hide and seek. They do it and cherish doing it.

Look for example at what is happening at our political scenario, it is a pure game of hide and seek. Guys are playing the artful dodger who is hard to find.

One day Uhuru is at ODM Kenya waving his left hand’s index finger and at the same time singing “Solidarity forever”. The next time he is giving conditions to ODM Kenya and before we breathe a sigh of relief he bolts.

The next Day Kalonzo says we want nomination of the presidential flagbearer by delegates system. His political nemesis Raila Odinga says NO we want consensus. Then “a secret” report is leaked to the media and it is alleged that Kalonzo is the favourite to beat Kibaki.

What happens? Kalonzo changes tune and becomes a consensus diehard. He is ready to sacrifice his life for it. The others call him a chameleon. He starts crying foul and the next moment he bolts to a small outfit called LPK. And from there he starts playing dirty, he takes control of ODM by ensuring that the chairman is allied to him.

Now he is walking tall because he knows that nobody can “Tunya.” I saw the smirk on his face that was telling Ruto that just like a smart hide and seek player would say that I am smarter than you guys.

Then there is Ngilu, the queen master of doublespeak, she is NARC chairperson, she is a government minister, an activist to boot, and a proponent of good governance. So when activists were busy trying to enter the precincts of parliament to disrupt house business, they were arrested. She moves with speed to secure one of them.

Talk about good governance and collective responsibility. The law is law and should be observed at all times.

So, she teams up with Raila Odinga master party hopper and they have tea. When they emerge from the meeting they are all smiles. Happy that they are ready to spoil for Kalonzo.

Watch this space and I can assure you that the hide and seek game is what the eating class has perfected in a bid to remain relevant.

No need to get stressed up because things are not going your politically, relax and enjoy the game.
